We urge President Bush to bring his constitutional
authority to bear and use "recess" appointments as a means
of liberating his judicial nominees who have been held
hostage by the Dems for the last year and a half.

Senate Democrats on the Judiciary Committee are sharpening
their long knives as they ready themselves for hearings on
Miguel Estrada's nomination to the D.C. Court of Appeals.
Despite Mr. Estrada's sterling qualifications to serve,
Senator Pat Leahy and his merry band of muggers have given
every indication that they will continue to savage the
president's nominees. There is much more at stake than one
man's credentials and qualifications. A few overzealous
Senate ideologues have arrogated unto themselves power that
rightly belongs to the full Senate. Their colleagues,
Republicans and Democrats alike, who accept the state of
affairs without howling with indignation to the American
people, must be deemed complicit in this hijacking of the
Constitution. The president must not allow Democrats to
get away with this raw exercise of power without authority.
Therefore, we urge Mr. Bush to bring his constitutional
authority to bear and use "recess" appointments as a means
of liberating his judicial nominees who have been held
hostage for the last year and a half.
